Things you should know prior to booking your session and common questions
How will I receive my photos? I have a 1 week turn around time. All sessions are digitally uploaded in a password protected album on my website. You will receive an email with a link to viewing your photos as well as instructions on how to download them. Your photos are not locked, the lock symbol means you have a password on the images. If you purchase a flashdrive, $25, that will be mailed out to you. You can add a flashdrive onto any package upon booking. These are the only 2 options I have as far as giving you your images.
Where is your studio located? The address is 1201 4th Ave S. Suite 132 Nashville, TN 37203 Below is a map and what the building looks like. The pass code to get in is "2665"
Where should I get my photos printed? If you aren't ordering prints through me I cannot be responsible for the photos you receive from a third party. Please refer to this awesome article, courtesy of Kaye Ness Photography http://www.kayenessphotography.com/consumer-photo-lab-comparison/
How will my images be retouched? I do an initial skin softening. I do not remove anything that I did not put there. So if your child has a running nose, a dirty face all these things need to be cleaned PRIOR to your session. If your child is drooling and most are I just ask you do your best to keep wiping as I am taking photos. I offer 2 packages for extensive retouching. The first one is $50 and I remove, bruises, rashes, scratches, bug bites, drool, boogers, food and tears. Package 2 is $100 and I remove tattoos, wrinkles, body imperfections, and teething whitening. Things I WILL NOT retouch. I cannot make anyone skinny. I wish I could but I can't. I cannot make anyone smile. If you feel insecure or uncomfortable about photos please talk to me prior so we can pinpoint and discuss what we can do. I feel everyone is beautiful and should take photos but there are some people who will not be happy. With that said I cannot change a person who dislikes everything about themselves I am not that type of photographer and you may want to find someone else. I feel like your expectations would be really hard for me to complete a product you are satisfied with. I do not retouch that way. That is not my style.
When will my photos be ready ? Regular sessions are done with 1 week. Newborn sessions are done in 1.5 weeks. I have an option to have your images within 1 day and that is additional $150 and you can add that on upon booking. Retouching images may take up to 2 weeks depending on the extent. So please plan accordingly. Facebook previews are not guaranteed but I do try my best. Also junk your junk mail as well your link could be sitting in there if you have not added my email to your list.
Do I receive a photo release? You sure do! Your first email confirmation you receive will have the release in that email so be sure to save it!
What if the weather is horrible? If it's raining we will reschedule. If it has poured and it will be muddy outside we will reschedule. If it's snowing we will reschedule I am from Florida and the snow I can't drive in :D
You should always call me if you are unsure if the session will go on. I try to give everyone a 2 hour notice. Last holiday session I had an issue with cold weather, children and cold weather DO NOT GO. If the temperature is below 40 degrees we will not be shooting. This year I have a studio so that should help a lot!
What should we wear? I have developed a clothing guide, please check it out : http://thenashvillephotographer.com/what-to-wear
If you have any parts of your body you dislike please do not wear outfits that will draw attention to those features. Example, if you dislike your legs do not wear a dress.
What kind of maternity gowns do you have? I have almost every color, sizes are small, medium and large. I have gowns with short sleeves, long sleeves and no sleeves. Solid colors or lace.
What type of sessions do you do? Newborns, Children, Birthdays, Engagement, Maternity, & Families. I do not shoot events or weddings.
I want to book a maternity session, when should I do that ? I always tell people to book their session 2 months prior to their due date. Reason is, what if it rains and we need to reschedule. What if you aren't as flexible with your schedule, what if you go into labor early, what if you get sent on bed rest. A lot of things happen and 2 months prior should take care of any issues. I am not saying you can book if your past the 2 months I just recommend that time frame.
Where do you live? I live in Nashville, TN, I am from West Palm Beach, Florida so I do go back almost every month to do sessions there and only there.
Where should we shoot? I have developed a list so far of places to shoot at, http://thenashvillephotographer.com/locations
I cannot pay the retainer can you hold a spot for me? Unfortunately due to circumstances I can no longer do this. Whenever you are ready and can pay the retainer just check the schedule to see what's available.
Tips to make your session go smoother:
Know your directions of the location you are going a few days prior.
ALWAYS guarantee you may hit traffic, especially if you pick a 5pm appointment. I try to avoid sessions at peak traffic times.
You MUST arrive 10-15 minutes early to your session. Kids need to get changed, get their faces wiped, adjust to their surroundings. You also want to avoid that late fee if you are more than 15 minutes late.
If you would like certain props you will need to discuss that with me immediately after you book so I can coordinate.
During your session:
Smile smile smile smile :) Husbands tend to have the most issue with this one. I want all my beautiful mommies to be happy so if you know your husband tends to get nervous or whatever please inform me!
For children have wipes, snacks, toys and juice ready. We want to keep them happy and with clean faces.
Do not get stressed. This should be a fun experience.
Newborn Session Tips:
Booking your session
I recommend you schedule your due date so you can get on the books. Typically newborn sessions are scheduled when you have done your maternity session. Then just keep me posted as the due date gets closer.
Newborn sessions must be scheduled within the first 14 days. However, the BEST time is between 3-7 days after their arrival.
I will be moving them around and scrunching them into those sweet sleepy newborn poses, so I want to make sure they’re sleepy enough to allow me to handle them.
Plus, babies just tend to do a lot better with the session within their first 7 days.
Somewhere around day 8 they discover the joy that is stretching! Once that happens…they’re not about to let us get them into those curly poses without a fight!
After day 14, it’s almost impossible to get baby into that deep sleep that came so easily in their first few days…so it’s unlikely that I will be able to get them into any of the more bendy newborn poses.
And, keep in mind that newborn acne (and sometimes colic) is likely to flare up after day 14. While I can easily edit problem areas, I prefer to do as little retouching as possible to baby’s skin.
My baby is passed the time recommended- Sometimes life is crazy busy and you may not be able to schedule a session prior. Please contact me prior so I can suggest a package that will be perfect for you.
Where are sessions done? Newborn sessions are done in the studio and you have full access to ALL props! I do shoot in your home for more lifestyle shots please contact me prior. There may be an additional charge for travel and props will be limited.
So lets get started, we need to get your baby SLEEPY! This will make the entire session go smoother. I recommend trying to keep your baby awake 2 hours prior to your session. Naked time and a wet wipe will help with this. Your baby needs to be FULL. You can feed on your way to the studio or as you get to the studio. A full baby is a happy baby and that's what we want. We need a very sleepy and calm baby in order to achieve the poses we are doing. I know you are trying to stay on a strict feeding schedule but adding in an extra feeding that day will not hurt. Otherwise I will spend more time soothing than taking photos.
Relax and be patient. I am in no hurry and I am not rushing you to make your baby sleep. A typical session takes about 1.5-2 hours to do. New moms tend to get stressed out if there baby isn't cooperating. I deal with that all the time and it's ok! Just relax. There is an amazing deli by the studio :)
Bring a pacifier ! Some parent's choose not to use pacifiers and using one for a few hours will not harm those teachings. So please bring one.
If your baby is gassy the day of your session, you can use Oval or Gripe Water.
If your baby has specific medicine for antacid please let me know prior.
There is a heater in the studio to make it nice and cozy. So please wear light clothing.
Sibling Shots - I like to do sibling shots first to get younger antsy toddlers out of the way. I do have toys and things to occupy their time but keep in mind this needs to be a relaxing experience and you may need to take siblings outdoors or home.
Circumcisions and shots - PLEASE make sure shots are done AFTER the newborn session and same goes to circumcisions. These things will make your baby extremely cranky.
If you are breastfeeding, watching what you eat. Spicy foods will upset your baby's tummy.
Hiccups. Are the worst! Try Gripe Water.
